The Town Councillors

This group of nine local residents, supported by the Town Clerk, work together in the council to bring local issues to the attention of the council and help make decisions on behalf of the local community.  They perform their roles through a series of committees  and groups including Finance, Staffing, Planning, Pavilion Management and Advisory.  They also participate in the DMBC Parish Councils Joint Consultative Committee, Yorkshire Local Councils’ Association, Tickhill United Charities, Tickhill in Bloom, Tickhill Parish Room Committee and Robin Hood Airport.  The Councillors as a whole regularly meet as a Council on a twice monthly basis.

COUNCIL STRUCTURE

The Town Council’s activities are governed by the Local Government Act 1972 and, under paragraph 12, a quorum is THREE council members (whether elected or not)

The Act requires that the public must be given notice of and have access to council meetings and to committee meetings. It also requires that, if present, the Council’s Chairman must preside, otherwise if the Vice Chairman is present he must preside in the chairman’s absence LGA 1972 Sch12 Para 11(1)

If the Chair and Vice chair are absent the councillors must elect a chairman. The clerk cannot chair a meeting. LGA 1972 Para 11 (3)

In view of the ever increasing workload of the Council and bearing in mind the requirements of the Local Government Act 1972, The Council will continue its policy of having two Councils each month on second Tuesday in the month starting at 10.30a.m. and on the fourth Tuesday in the month starting at 7.00 p.m.
